Why HouseRules exists

A while back, our founder needed work done on his house. He did what everyone does: typed his project into one of the big home improvement sites, entered his phone number, and hit submit.

The phone started ringing before he finished his coffee.

Automated calls. Texts from numbers he had never seen. Voicemails from companies he never contacted. It went on for days. He was blocking numbers between meetings just to make it stop. Somewhere in a database, his phone number had become the product, sold and resold to anyone paying for "leads."

The worst part: that is the business model. Those sites make money selling your contact info to contractors, whether or not you ever hire anyone. The spam is not a side effect. It is the product working as designed.

So we built the opposite.

On HouseRules, you post your project with photos and a budget. License-verified contractors bid on the work, not on your contact info, because they cannot see it. You compare real bids on one sheet, as many as you allowed. When you pick your contractor, and only then, your info is shared with that one company. Nobody else ever gets it.

We are starting in the Portland metro, our home, with the trades homeowners need most. No lead selling, ever. It is not a feature. It is the reason this company exists.
